NB to find new fuel source for Belledune generating station

Dec. 14, 2017 - The New Brunswick government is moving forward with a plan to eliminate the use of coal at its Belledune Generating Station by pledging $7 million to find a new fuel source, officials announced yesterday.
Energy and Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet told reporters NB Power will consider hydrogen, biomass and natural gas.
“Given the infrastructure that’s there, it makes sense to identify a new source of fuel to keep the plant operating for decades to come,” Doucet said.
The announcement by Energy and Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet came a day after the Wood Pellet Association of Canada and Canadian Biomass hosted NB Wood Pellet Forum to encourage the government to consider firing Belledune with wood pellets.
